La Riposte is an idea, and if it's a good idea it should become a movement. Better economic productivity through more efficient trade and a more skilled and flexible workforce. Kids in school more engaged with better outcomes because everyone is working on the same goal as them. It's Victory Gardens, but for almost anyone.
La Riposte is ultimately two things: Non French-fluent Canadians learning French, and Canadians talking about La Riposte. That's it. No other politics, no t-shirts, no newsletter subscription. Canada has two official languages. The US came for one of them. So we'll brush up with our elbows up and show them no piece of our culture is negotiable.
Millions of us are on language apps already. Our tax dollars provide a free to use app (Mauril, by the CBC). Many of us grew up learning French in school. Many of us have kids learning it in school right now. We just need to point in the same direction at the same time, and it will change the country forever. And remind the United States, and the world, what makes Canadians different.
Here's the road map:
1. Learn French most days starting tomorrow. Even just a bit. Flip the language on your favorite show once in a while.
2. Talk about the idea of La Riposte. Post about it and tag it when you hit milestones. Write it in creative places, graffiti-style.
3. If enough people like the idea, there will be digital evidence that the movement is growing.
4. Once the digital evidence becomes noticeable, the media will pick it up.
5. Once the media picks it up, the Trump administration will be displeased. But they'll hear the message.
